My old 1996 A6 avant did the same thing. It was making
my doors lock, alarm set when I opened/closed hatch.
Not good when you leave keys in ignition and shut
hatch!
Anyway, I repaired the broken ones and put some heat
shrink over them. On the stretched , but not broken, I
taped over each one individually. Figured they were
already maxed out so they wouldn't stretch further.
Worked like a champ.
I checked my S6 avant as soon as I bought it, as my
rear widow defogger keeps blowing a fuse. The wires
are fine but the problem remains unsolved.
Good Luck
Mike
Well, well, well.. As I read the posting about the
rear hatch wires
that
went bad on a 100CS, I thought it might be related to
my now soon
half-year long fuse-frenzy, that incorporated the loss
of instument
cluster lighting, glovebox, engine room and licence
plate lights. I
thought it was something in the dashboard or hood
joint, but peeling
back the grommet on the rear hatch, revealed a nasty
bunch of broken
wires..

Guess I'll
just as well replace the whole cable assy!
