In all of these discussions, I don’t think I’ve seen one person claim to
have entered a competitive event (save for a little Sunday pylon tipping or
one-lap) with a ur S-car. We do it ‘cause it’s an absolute blast, and it’s
the only way we can drive these cars near even their stock limits without
putting ourselves in serious danger of incarceration. Anyone who’s tossing
the pig on a regular basis knows the ramification$ thereof.
I’m a rank amateur at this game, and at the far low end of the modification
totem pole, but I thank you regular pig-floggers for finding the limits,
then engineering around them, breaking stuff that’s eventually going to
break on my car and finding sources for new ones before I have to, and in
general making me feel pretty good about the totally irrational behavior of
hanging on to a car with 150K miles on it that requires more or less
constant vigil and cash flow to keep roadworthy.
To those of you on the fringe, I raise my 13mm gear wrench and say
Shine
Shine on you Crazy Diamonds!

And remember, the best dancers aren’t always the most fun anyway. This
applies to cars too.
