Hmmm, ECS Stage II or III? Mintex Red box pads or Hawks? Still got the boxes
for the calipers? Were they a "928" Porsche part #? If so, did you rotate
the bleeders w/ the tube that links the two piston banks (you should end up
with the leading piston being the small one)? If not, the leading edge of
your pads will wear significantly faster.
Yes, I have had the shaking issue you describe, feels like a warped rotor,
but no way (especially not if you have the Porsche Rotors). Just a build up
of Mintex red box goo. I melted the Mintex pads during some routine
exercises. I switched to Hawk HPS's (should have switched to HP plus's) this
was an improvement, but the shakes still came after the brakes were nice
and hot, street cruising seemed ok.
Finally, I took the rotors and pads off, cleared out the rotor holes with a
drill. Yes, the Mintex goo had plugged them up and then turned hard. A lot
of the holes were plugged up solid. I was thinking that every time I heated
this mess up, the Mintex goo would start to ooze out, and do something to
the surface of the rotor. Anyway this was a last ditch effort. I then sanded
the pads and the rotor surface with Garnet paper (sandpaper intended for
wood) because I read somewhere that introducing aluminum oxide (most common
sanding paper) to the surface of the rotor was a bad thing in itself. All
that and a new tie rod end, and the brakes fell the best they have felt.
YMMV. Oh, by the way, I have spoken to ECS about this and they no longer
sell the Mintex red box pads with their Stage III kit, I did not ask about
stage II.
