I own a 1992 Audi S4 with 141,000 miles. This morning, I started the
car, backed out of the garage and let it idle for 10 minutes or so. I
then got in it to drive to work and as soon as I disengaged the clutch,
the car died on me. I then attempted to start the car but it failed to
turn over. I waited a few minutes, attempted to start it again - this
time it sounded like it might turn over but it just didn't have enough
juice.

Up until this, there was no sign of a problem other than a brief battery
light in the dash while I was driving two days ago. The battery light
came on for about a minute, but then went away. I checked the power of
the battery that evening and it seemed okay so I didn't think much of
it.

Given these symptoms, I am inclined to believe that the problem is with
my alternator. Does this sound correct? Is this a pain to replace? Is it
a DIY job? Are there different versions of alternators for this car?
What is recommended? Thanks in advance!
