Hi Y'all (again),
Patient: '95 urS6 with MTM 1+ chipset and 3 bar PT.
More info. VAG-COM indicates no fault codes except that there is no signal
from the engine speed sensor. Not surprising, eh what, with the engine not
running? The ECU fuse is OK.
I tried to fire it up and the engine caught fairly quickly and ran not too
badly for about 5 seconds and then seemed to starve for fuel again and
died. While it ran there was no obvious miss.
Let me run something by everyone. I filled the tank yesterday morning
before we went very far into our planned 400+ mile drive. My usual station
was lined up several cars deep so I went on past it and stopped at a fairly
new truck stop about 20 miles into the trip. I have never stopped there
before. I topped up the tank with about 12 gallons of 93 and then headed
on North. The outbound portion of the trip was basically freeway
driving. No bad hills or sharp bends. Therefore no great accelerative
forces. The return portion of the trip we decided to go back home the "fun
way". Narrow two lane mountain roads with lots of fairly steep hills and
sharp and fairly fast corners - lots of accelerative forces.
D'ya s'pose this might have stirred up possible contamination (water? Lots
of rain recently in the location of the truck stop) enough to have stopped
the engine? I wonder if an extended cranking might free the system and get
the engine to fire up again. Would this damage anything?
