FWIW, I owned both a 91 200 and a 93 S4 at the same time. The 91 200 is a
great car for what it is, but leaves a lot to be asked for in terms of handling.
The 93 S4 is far superior in that regard... and I'm not really sure why.
The suspensions are identical in the rear, and the front has the same design.
The only difference I have noticed, is that the location of the control arm
mounting point on the subframe is moved further to the rear on the S cars than it
is on the 200s. Perhaps this makes a more rigid front suspension. Also, it
seems that the chassis as a whole is more rigid on the S cars. Given the
choice to buy either car, I would choose the S cars hands down, despite the
difference in cost. Performance potential of either car (in terms of power) is very
good.
Last... braking on either car is a severe weakness, and they share braking
components (G60 stuff) unless you get a UFO equipped 200. It is only
exaggerated by the S car's greater weight. I immediately equipped my 200 with "big
reds," late A8 rotors (323s I believe), and RS2 caliper adapters. I moved all of
these parts over to the S4 when I purchased it. This, to me, is an invaluable
upgrade... one I would put before any power changes... but it will set you
back about $900-1100, depending on how you shop.
