[s-cars] Optima Battery - What Model?

Mark,

I agree with Stephen. Why not upgrade one more step?
Upgrade to the OdysseyR battery instead of the Optima.
I used the PC1200 version on my Yellow conversion,
and have never seen such a small powerhouse of a battery.
Check this out:

2600 amps short circuit
1200 amps for 5 seconds
1090 amps for 10 seconds
 900 amps for 20 seconds
860 amps for 30 seconds at 80 degrees HCA ( Hot Cranking Amps)
725 amps for 30 seconds at 32 degrees MCA (Marine Cranking Amps)
550 amps for 30 seconds at 0 degrees CCA ( Cold Cranking Amps)
400 amps for 60 seconds (just a fact)
25 amps for 78 minutes (Reserve Capacity)
4 amps for 10 hours (40 amp hour rating)

And the fast recovery. . . with the alternator charging, there is no
limitation on the inrush current, so the charge and recovery is very
fast in contrast to the Optima with its 10 amp limit.

***After composing and rereading this I sound like a battery salesman
sorry, but I think this is educational for all.

The Odyssey is NOT a Gel-Cell like the Optima, but is a "starved" or
absorbed electrolyte type battery, meaning that there is no free acid
inside the battery; all of the acid is kept absorbed in the glass mat
separators. There is no free electrolyte liquid or gel which could
escape and cause corrosion, even in the event of damage to the battery
case. If the ODYSSEY battery were to split open, there would be no acid
spillage!

Owing to the Drycell design, the US Department of Transportation (USDOT)
has classified the ODYSSEYR battery as a dry battery, so it may be
shipped worry-free by UPS/Federal Express or by air.

The PC1200 series is smaller that a stock Audi battery. You can use
your own custom hold down or buy one from West Coast Batteries.

This battery is actually the civilian version of the PC1200-0766-2003
42Ah/C10 Light Duty Truck battery that Hawker Energy Products supplies
to the US Military with a 12 year life. They are practically
indestructible. Military design prevents shorted cells and vibration
damage. They provide deep-cycle reserve and high starting power.
