Location is everything. I've run AT&T, RCN (both cable), ISDN, and Verizon
DSL.

The first two were rock solid. AT&T had a couple of glitches early on, and I
kept an analog modem handy. RCN has also been rock solid, up until recently.
Now they seem to go flaky every now and then, and I can't figure out why.
Weird.

ISDN. Worked like a charm (for me) and I figured out a way to get 24x7
service for a flat monthly rate of $55. Verizon didn't like that very much.

DSL. Worked okay. This was in the early days, and I had gotten accustomed to
the fast uploads of cable. First time I sent a big file I thought something
had blown up. It was reasonably reliable.

If I were you, I'd stick with cable. :)
