Hi Jeff,
I live in the great Northwest as well, but am a transplant from the midwest.
I can tell you with a certainty, that there is no such thing as a
ultra-performance tire that is also a snow tire. Best advice I can give you
is to get a set of snows (I reccomend the Pirelli Winter 210 Assymetrics)
and leave them on for the season if you are crossing the passes often.
A good rain-shedding summer tire is what I am looking for. I won't be
taking the 944 S2 up to the mountains, so it isn't even a concern of mine.
But wet traction and hydroplane resistance is a HUGE factor, living in
Seattle.
