ok, now we have to add another requirement for a track/race car:
must be fairly cheap (unless you are very well-heeled).

when you are exploring the limits of a car, particularly in a wheel to
wheel environment, your chances of bringing the car home in a baggie
are significantly higher.

a miata, mustang, camaro, or E30 325i is a much better candidate in
this regard.  if you can afford to crunch a $39k car, more power to
you.  i wish i could.

BTW, didn't anybody from this list go to ALMS at laguna seca this
past weekend?  the battle between the RS6 driven by pobst and the
viper driven by paul mumford was awesome to watch.  it was a
david vs. goliath battle, and david (mumford) won.  pretty damn
impressive for a rookie driver running in his second pro race
and paying for it out of his own pocket.  it was inspiring to
see the factory-supported BMW teams (with auberlen and hans stuck
driving!) and audi teams get a drubbing at the hands of mumford and
his lone crewman.
