Exactly, Bruce-
Nothing humbles you more than having some punk kid chase you down in his
yellow ITR in the twisties, forcing you to give the passing signal even
though I could easily smoke him on the straights. Kid was gone in the
twisties
once he got past. :-(
Miata, ITR, something like that as a HPDE/track/autox car for me. Need
money
to accomplish that goal- too bad a TDI Golf is not a good track/autox
car,
I need one with the miles I'm driving these days.
Modern-day equivalent to the UrQ would be just fine- Mitsu Evo8. :-)

Subject: Re: [s-cars] Track car or not track car
Having spent a lot of time on various tracks with both my 1993 and now
2001 S4, I can honestly say I love the Audis on the track. I love having
a "dual purpose" car, with street comfort and track HP. It's great with
the AWD, thundering out of corners, and when it rains, it's a joke
circling other cars.
I love it I love it I love it....until I have to go around a corner or
brake for a corner. Then all the lighter cars catch up to me, and I
watch cars that I was chasing down on the straights with HP, run away
from me in the corners with lightness. It's irritating.
So for me, it's simply about weight....not Audi vs. non-Audi. Yes, the
having a dedicated track car would be great, but I bring four tires and
wheels, full pit equipment, spare parts, and an extra person in a luxury
ride to and from the track, with no trailer. One day I'll get a track
car, just set up for DE and MAYBE basic street driving to get it to and
from the shop. But if they could shave 700 lbs out of the Audi
(2900lbs???), it would be the ultimate all weather four door
dual-purpose sports car.
Bruce
