Hang up the daily driver/track car idea and think karts, especially
shifter karts. Closest thing you'll drive to a full on race car and the
price is right. Acceleration, braking and cornering are truly awesome.
Those of you, who were at Laguna Seca last weekend for the ALMS had an
opportunity to see World Superkarts and Eddie Lawson, four-time bike
500cc GP champ, at speed. Lawson's laptimes would have put him in the
middle of the GTS field.
A smaller 80-125cc shifter kart (vs. Lawson's 2-cylinder 250cc kart) on
a purpose built kart track, will be equally exciting, or more so, as
everything is scaled down to kart size. Jim Hall, Jr., son of the Jim
Hall of Chaparral fame, runs an excellent karting school in Ventura, CA.
Bondurant, Russell and others run kart schools, too.
