[s-cars] silver paint

I disagree partially with this advice-
If you're trying to start gently, I would start with 3M Imperial Machine
Glaze instead
of Swirl Mark Remover and see if that works- it's less aggressive.
Paint cleaner is irrelevant- the "cleaner" is an abrasive and you'll be
doing the same thing
twice. Instead, I'd start with using something like Dawn dishwashing
detergent to wash the
car first- this will strip the wax and other residues off the car
completely, then go with
Imperial Machine/Hand Glaze, then see if more aggressive steps are
necessary.
DO NOT run even a random orbital at high speed on a car, very bad idea.

Dan is right, and I like hist selection of products.
Just do what he say, Stefan. And do not forget about Igor and vodka ;)
Many people have reported better results when using p21s cleanser after
3m smr and before wax, but that does not really matter.
Since you are able to see that cloudiness, I do not think that cleaner
wax will help you a lot. I would skip first step and go immediately to
3M SMR, applied with a good orbital buffer. With this combination - it
is really hard (almost impossible) to screw the paint - SMR is a very
gentle polish and orbital buffer will not burn you paint unless you do
something SERIOUSLY wrong (like polishing the same spot not moving
buffer for half an hour). Give yourself a favor - buy/borrow Porter
Cable orbital. Your car will look better and your back will thank you :)
This thing really sings in 7th gear.
Since paint on your car was rather neglected by previous owner (at least
I got that idea from Igor comments) I would use some paint cleaner
before SMR just to get dirt out of it. p21s is very gentle, it will not
cut it. Mother's cleaner from Pep Boys will do just fine. I was
surprised how much dirt it took out of "new to me" Volvo XC, and how
much better paint looked afterwards.
Than wax it. Any good wax without Turtle particles in it will do it's
work, but nothing beats good german wax. Visit any Harley-Davidson
dealership, and get there S100 cycle wax, it is the same thing as p21s
wax, just repackaged, almost twice cheaper and available locally.
regards,
Olek
