Wouldn't kick this puppy out of the garage, but still trying to come to
terms with the front end design. Seems that most car designers these
days start at the front, do a fairly respectable job, then move to the
middle and keep it together -- losing the occasional B pillar along the
way. For some strange reason, they get to the rear of the car and lose
interest, run out of design funds, or turn the whole thing over to the
School for the Blind and head out the door for a three hour lunch.
Seems in the case of the Le Mans Quattro, Audi started working at the
rear. Looks as if they turned the headlights over to Hans, whose last
job was installing lighting at the new football stadium, dropped in a
Reminiscent-of-the-Auto-Union-Racers grill and filled in the rest of the
front end real estate with vents. (Then, went out for a Bier and
Schnitzel.) This baby is crying out for a bra.
The rest of the car appears to be a mix of the TT and Quattro Spyder,
with a little Lotus Elise thrown in. This is not necessarily a bad
thing, because the results are pretty butch and pulled together. I guess
the rear end vents give it that tie-in to the R8, but otherwise, I don't
really see much connection.
No arguments with the basic hardware, though the plethora (did I say
"plethora"???) of electronic gadgets and doo-dads is sure to push the
price up to the unobtanium level. More likely finances-wise to end up in
the VW Concept R, with its
Not-Quite-Reminiscent-of-the-Auto-Union-Racers grill. Unless I hit the
Lottery, that is. Besides, you can't see the front end from the driver's
seat. Concept R:
