Stefan:

Don't have an avant but do have a 1990 Coupe Quattro in Kristal Silber.
Same condition (prolly worse).
My departed 1986 early build 16V Scirocco in Flash Silver Metallic had the same issue.

Clear coat is cloudy in areas, other areas it looks like someone took a scotchbrite pad to the paint,
Other parts have deep scratches.  Paint looks "dry".

Car looks good for one day after cleaning and polishing with 3M hand glaze, followed by Blitz wax.

Bottom line...the clear coat paint layer is failing.
Nothing that you do short of sanding the paint and re-clear coating will solve the problem.

I'm looking for a shop that can do just that...color-sand the clear coat and re-apply.
I want to maintain the factory silver paint and NOT go for a total repaint.
