Taka is right.  There's always practice time before the race.
And before you do that, you can usually get time on a local track
sometimes for free, sometimes for a nominal rental fee.

Way back when, I was running a SCCA Regional Porsche, and used to
trailer to a local 1/2 mile oval track for the break in the
engine and basic carb tuning stuff.  There was no question of
driving it on the street ...  4" high windshield, roll bar and
headers with megaphones would have tipped off any cop that saw
it, and that would be before he wondered about the blocked off
headlights and the numbers on the doors.
