Listers,
I read the messages and only relive the pain of my first to RS2 EM installs=
=2E.. thankfully I got it down to a complete install and engine up and run=
ning in less than 4 hours ... every hint helps. Yes, oil lines installed o=
n the turbo BEFORE you install the turbo is a real time saver. I followed =
the UrS4 recommendations for a wrench, but now have a pair (one creates two=
) of 12mm wrenches, one is box, the other is open, both about 3 inches long=
and the heads are less than 1/4" thick ... 327 iterations of 1 inch of mov=
ement, flip, repeat. tighten all bolts as a group, or you quickly discover=
the angst of the RS2 gods as you are backing those SOB's out to get others=
to turn...
My other time saver is I use bolts to connect the exhaust flange to the tur=
bine housing with "jamb" nuts to keep it tight. This allows me to remove t=
he turbo without doing the downpipe dance ...
FWIW, I went to the dealer to get my manifold "self-locking" nuts only to g=
et shocked at they cost $2.45 each ... yep, you heard that right. $44.00+ =
for a set of 20. It was a bargain when I found out the turbo to manifold b=
olts are $11.00 each. What was I thinking.
I will take pics of the install to update the current install guide; my EM =
will be back from Jet-Hot on Friday. I went for the JetHot 2000 in black f=
or $150.00; chose this over the sterling for I will wrap the turbo and down=
pipe with thermo wrap ... Todd B. at JetHot recommends the higher heat tole=
rance since a wrapped header and downpipe will needs the added protection. =
Pics of all will follow.
5 Years of S-Car mania ... I think I only have 12 steps left...
