Hello, I'd like to add to the confusion in a couple ways.
1st, I wonder if the different between the two snow tires you speak
about can be attributed to the difference in weight between the
90Q20V and the urS6? They're sort of different cars, so even with
the same snow tire mounted they might well give different results.
Then when you put two different snow tires on them, how can you
be sure the differences you see are differences in the snow tires?
2nd, I have also been using and have liked Pirelli tires.
I have had a set of Pirelli Winter 210 Asimettrico snow tires on
my 95 A6q for about three winters. Their size is P205/60R15.
The Winter 210 Asimettrico is the predecessor of the W210 SnowSport.
We don't get that much snow in Columbus OH in the average winter,
but for the snow that we have gotten the W210's have been very good
for me. And when it's not snowing (90% of the time around here), the
Winter 210's other attributes make it an outstanding tire on
dry or wet pavement, as you also noted.
I just picked up a set of the W210 SnowSport (same size) for my other car,
so come next spring I may be able to give you a heads up comparison of
the Asimettrico vs the SnowSport.
Finally, in terms of other Pirelli tires, I had a set of
Pirelli P6000 SportVeloce (all season) tires on one of my A6's for
several years. I found them quiet, boring and not very confidence
inspiring. Maybe the summer-version of the same tire would have
been very different. I am now running a set of the new-generation P7
tires on the same car. Difference is like night and day. The P7,
which is only a high-performance tires, mind you, not ultra-high,
has been on the car since July and it has been great in dry and wet,
cornering and high speed running.
Just my 35 Italian Lira's worth,
Franco
