On Friday, September 26, 2003, Elvis and James exchange queries about
passenger side mirrors:
James:
> Where do you get a passenger side mirror the same size as the driver

> Does that exist (maybe in the UK?)

Elvis:

I haven't sorted out the garage after the midnight requisition by
thieves, but there were notes from Igor's postings that resulted in my
drivers side mirror purchase in Germany. Perhaps Igor can be persuaded
to repost since the present listers in need can't be bothered with a
laborious archive search. :-) It concerns the compatibility of the
late model A4 passenger side mirror with the S6 except for the vehicle
mount and Igor's Frankenmirror instructions to mate the two at the
foldback hinge.

The heating element is attached to the mirror back and has identical
male connectors. The motor is attached to the plastic piece in the
gimbal that the mirror clips onto, so there is no problem electrically.

Next time you are around another Audi A4 or A6 or VW Passat, etc, take
note of the size, shape and construction of the side mirror, and I
think you will not find any obvious differences other than they have a
full size passenger side mirror matching the driver side. Carefully
removing the glass will disclose few changes to the mechanism or shell
attachment, except there is one additional round connector on my mirror
back that is now unused. ( auto-dimming, perhaps ? ) I'm not
suggesting you inspect someone's car this closely in the parking lot,
but you could measure.

I think those needing just glass may discover another source for
replacements, also. YMMV
