i opened up the power window/sunroof control module, which looks like a
big double-wide relay.  part number is 441 959 257 B.  charlie's webpage
talks about replacing this as a way to get express window up.

the first thing i noticed was an acrid smell.  i've fried enough
chips and electronics to be pretty sure that something is blown.
just for kicks, i plugged it back in to see what would happen.
the relay clicks on and off intermittently, all by itself.  it doesn't
seem to be affected by pressing on the relay socket or wiggling the wiring
around it, so i don't think it's a bad connection.

is it common for this module to fail?
