it's good that you didn't force anything :)
There is a hole in the fender. Shine your flashlite in. Do you see the
plastic thing like a dial with a slot in it? Stick a long flat
screwdriver in, turn 1/4 turn g-e-e-e-e-ently, g-e-e-e-e-ently press on
it and move the handle towards the windshield. You will release the
plastick latsh and pry it out in this single movement.
Please do not force it! As always with German cars, if something does
not release easily, chances are you're doing it wrong.
