[s-cars] Possible new chip discovery

I've only seen the following "part numbers" on S4/S6 chips in the USA:

3678 1 267 357 250
CE27 1 267 357 248
As a pair. In fact all 1992 sold here contained that pair

Then came:
FAD6 1 267 357 483
FDD6 1 267 357 394
Matched up with:
09AE 1 267 357 391

Rarely you will find new labels on old boxes, as if to say they were
originally one kind and then just the software was changed.

All the early chips came in boxes with the strengthening embossed "X" on
the cover like on the 200 3B engine.

When the new pairs of chips came out we made new code with Lehmann's
help, but when using racing or custom code we did not find any issues. I
remember when Lehmann had not yet seen the ...483 part number.

The newer chips had many more look up tables and places where you needed
to make sure you duplicated your data.

Over the years we did not find any issues at all in changing, mixing and
matching chips. Kind of like putting new software into generic personal
computers.

Another thing:

All AAN ECUs through circa mid-1992 were socketed from the factory,
including the rare 551A ECUs and some ECUs containing the D03 software
revision (357391 and 357394/483 bosch numbers), but most of them were
D02
(357248 and 357250 bosch SW numbers).

HTH,

Mihnea

Gabriel,

These are bone stock factory chips from a 4A0 907 551AA ECU, they are a
pretty early version of the AAN chips but there's nothing really special

about them. The Audi software version is D01, which means that they are
the
first version of the code available for the 551AA ECU, D02 not being
available in the US AFAIK, only D03 which is 357 391 bosch SW number.

In case you want a chip upgrade, make sure the new chips are made on
basis
of this original software version (i.e. not like the MTM 1+ code which
is
based off of an ABY fuel/timing chip), otherwise this could lead to
running
problems (saw that a couple of times with people who've bought chips on
Ebay for instance).

Hope this helps,

Mihnea

According to www.UrS4.com <<http://www.urs4.com/>http://www.urs4.com/>
my
stock '92 ECU chips
should be:

TOP 1.267.357.391
BOT 1.267.357.394

I have:

1.267.356.710

1.267.356.711

and they are both socketed with keepers that match the pressure
transducer keeper. i.e. stock looking with the same logo. Also the PCB
shows no signs of ever being soldered. Since my car is a fairly early
build (10/91) I'm guessing these are some early chips and the early
chips were socketed. The numbering scheme seems to support this. At
least I already have sockets for future chipping. :-)
