[s-cars] Erratic Fuel Gauge - Archive Searched but still need help

Mark,
One of my S4's had your symptoms, ended up being the wire that runs
down to the bottom of the float inside the tank.
I suggest checking to see if this wire is frayed and ready to break,
ours started reading erattic and then wouldn't go off empty.
To get to it you will need to remove the cover held on with three
screws (in the trunk), unhook the fuel lines and unplu the wires. Using
a screwdriver (or chisel) and a hammer tap the rotating ring loose and
remove it. Then you can pull out the float and inspect the wire.
