[s-cars] BIRA vs Big Red (ECS2, etc)

Yes, Taka, I think a good part of the "soft" pedal on our cars is spent in
taking up "slop" in the caliper systems. A part of this can be alleviated by
using the parking brake regularly - that keeps the "slop" in the rear
calipers at a minimum.

Thanks Fred-
You've pretty much confirmed my suspicions.
Do you think the "slop" you mention is part of
the reason why pedal feel is so much better with
the Porsche/Brembo fixed calipers?
Then again, the SVT Cobra has very nice pedal feel,
with their PBR twin-piston sliding calipers.

The sliding caliper brake systems have a lot more "slop" in them and can
accommodate a larger range of assembly dimensional variance than the
fixed caliper systems. That's why a lot of OEM setups use them and why
they don't squeal. If the fixed caliper isn't perfectly parallel with
the rotor, it will tend to squeal. The sliding systems are "self -
aligning" to a certain degree.
