Bob: Hmmm.... tough one. I don't have the answer but I do have some
ideas. They're in caps below:
Bob had these questions:
1. If the tech didn't really check the timing and the belt slipped by
one notch would it run as described? SOUNDS LIKE A POSSIBILITY. I AM
WONDERING IF THERE ISN'T A PROBLEM WITH THE TRIGGER WHEEL THAT IS
ATTACHED TO THE CAMSPROCKET, E.G. ITS CRACKED AND AT HIGHER RPM
(CENTRIFUGAL FORCES) THE CRACK OPENS UP AND CAUSES THE CPS CONFUSION.
2. Can I check timing without accessing the timing belt? AT THE VERY
LEAST YOU NEED TO BE ABLE TO SEE THE CAM SPROCKET AND THE TOP OF THE
HEAD - BUT THAT ONLY TELLS YOU THE TOP PART OF THE TIMING BELT ALIGNMENT
STORY.
3. If I borrow an ECU out of another person's car and installed it in
mine is there any chance I could damage it (I wouldn't think so but?)?
I DON'T THINK SO.
4. Is there any chance a faulty coil pack or POS could give me a 2113
code? I DON'T THINK SO. THE ECU FAULT CODES ARE QUITE SPECIFIC.
5. Anyone ever have a similar problem where replacing the CPS didn't fix
it? I REPLACED MINE AND THAT PROBLEM WENT AWAY.
You should test your boost hoses for leakage. (block off the crankcase
ventilation and ISV as well as the the throttle body). The Michelin Man
hose can have a crack in it that only opens up under boost.
