[s-cars] HVAC display problems (suggestions please)

Need some suggestions...

My HVAC has this annoying display problem, the two numbers on the left hand side work only intermittently (only display properly under the right humid index), usually it only displays part of the temperature number that I want. 

I've taken the display out completely but can't see anything visibly wrong, I've tried the following:

Reseated and cleaned all connections
Swapped the rubber display links from the circuit board to the LCD
Checked for any cold solder joints

I'm not sure if the problem is inside the LCD or an electrical gremlin on the circuit board.... The HVAC works fine, but it's annoying not to see the full number when I want.

Any suggestions of what to do... (other than replacing the unit !)?
