I would say that is the throwout bearing. If you rev-match you will
probably never hear this noise. The part is cheap, but removing the
transmission to get at it is not (unless you do it yourself).

Subject: [s-cars] UrS4 Test Drive

S-Car Crew,

I test drove a '93 urS4 today. It has less than 75K miles. We went for

a fairly long test drive. Three times, as I was downshifting into
second, then letting the clutch out and staring to turn, we (the owner
and I) heard a mild squeeking noise, maybe more like a quick yelp. It
did it once on a right turn and twice on lefts, but it did not do it all

the time and when I tired to reproduce it as we pulled back into her
condo parking lot (left turn) it was quiet. It sounded to me as if it
was coming from my side of the car, but that may have been because I was

there with the window wide open. The owners says she's never heard it
before and I think she's being truthful. Any ideas?
