Hi Hap,
Funny you should ask NOW. We finished the hoses last night. Took her
for a "test drive" (I haven't given it back). Just like you said, full
boost 400 rpm sooner. It just spins better, like it has more hp.
Warning, Butt-Dyno content ahead!!!! Nomenclature:
Non-Butt-Dyno-Content e.g. measurable data(NBDCMD), Butt-Dyno-Content
(BDC):
The boost in psi is a couple of lbs lower(NBDCMD), even though the car
feels faster (BDC). I suspect this is due to less pressure loss from
FMIC (BDC), and superior efficiency from both IC size and placement
(BDC). In other words, I'm getting more Mass Air Flow at lower psi
because of the IC cooling (BDC) and lower turbo exit temps (BDC). I
have the Davtron in hand, will see if I can it installed so I can push
the above BDC closer to NBDCMD. :^)
Comments:
I used the Michelin man hose as the connector from the 2.75 aluminum
turbo out to the 2.5 aluminum IC in. Fit great. The driver's side was
more of a challenge. We used 2-45 degree silicone elbows with ~8 in legs
and one 90 degree aluminum elbow. I don't like it much, and I will
replace it with all aluminum soonest.
Issues:
The IC I chose is too big for the stock bumper. 18x6x3.5 vertical flow,
end tanks more or less the same as Tomlinson's (Spearco Casted Race.) It
works ok in the vertical axis, but is too thick. I cut into the lower
valence a bit. It should fit fine in a Euro bumper. Next years paint
job will include a Euro bumper like Tomlinson.
So publicly Hap, I'd like to thank you, MLP, Ray Tomlinson, et al, for
the idea to do this. Car is really fast, and super fun to drive!!!
