(after trans removal;)
save the three hours it requires to take the door and latch apart and
reassemble and just spray my favourite new lubricant Boeshield

5947 into the latch mechanism liberally.  This stuff actually dines on
corrosion.  Rear doors, spray into the kidlocks too as the mechanism is
just below there IIRC. 
Give it a few minutes hours or days.. but I would bet it will work well
in many cases.  Boeshield is to WD40 as Sfest beer is to Budlight IME.
