PK,

IMHE (experience), CV joints will not simply "pop" once
during a manuver, but clunk as long as there is motion,
in direct relationship to speed. Had this happen in my
much abused (Auto-X'd) GTi thrice, and believe it or not,
in the beater Subie, now going on it's second (and last,
it's going to become a tax break shortly). Outers tend to
be most noticable when the car is turned and the afflicted
CV is on the outside of the turn, never had an inner fail.

>From what I've heard, I'd say CV's should be far down on
the suspect list. Now, time to go ponder. Go get another
beer...
