Waddya expect? Even the newest of them (Igor...) is 7 years
old. And then we tweak-em to performance levels beyond
(sometimes WELL beyond) what the factory had planned. Then
we push-em. So they break. Oh well.
I think part of the issue is that these cars basic structure is designed
to last a "normal" life on the autobahn where they probably (don't know
for sure, any Euro listers that can contribute here?) crap out in about
10 yrs. On the left side of the pond, other than the track, its hard to
do consistent 100 mph (160 km/hr) runs, at least legally. So the car's
basic structure seems to last, while the normal things start to break.
I think that the only thing that'll keep any of these things going is
maintenance, replacement, etc., kind of like aircraft. Heck, the only
reason my GTi made it through 10 yrs of highly competitive Autocross
(through Divisional level) is through such a program, AND the fact that
the car is so (relatively) slow, and (absolutely) light, it really
couldn't
hurt itself. It took a major storm felling a tree to kill that car. :-(
Besides, if our cars didn't break, would Dan have ever had a reason
to start the original Q-list? Yeah, I'd venture a guess that S-cars.org
would've still existed, but then the only other forum would've been
Audiworld, and then we'd be bitching about what color tail-lights we
should put on our non-breaking (yet) A4's....
