Yes, I'm serious- vodka works quite well. I would suggest rubbing
alcohol or something similar for hoses rather than vodka- much
cheaper. I only used vodka because it was available and I had no
rubbing alcohol.

Still makes things easier to put on but evaporates so you don't have
liquid there forever.
