What you need is a 10mm "knuckle socket". You can't use, or at least I
couldn't use a knuckle extension with a regular socket because it is too
long. The key is patience and taking it slow. If you don't drop anything
into hard places to find it really can be done in under 1/2 hour.

Tim,
Search the archives for some write ups. I think I did one and there
may be three or four other places it is written too.
That said, from what I recall this is a good opportunity to purchase
that really cool $9 small wratchet wrench. I do not recall the bolt
size. It's a PITA.
Get a big catch pan to catch coolant and have some new coolant ready
(mix 50/50 w/ H2O)
Remove the thermostat housing.
Note orientation of the old thermostat. The part of the flange that
holds the sensor in place should be perpendicular to the ground.
Pulling the old one out is/could be your biggest challenge. It is
stuck and there is no way to get leverage to pry it out. I looped
some old picture wire through it and after wrapping the other end
around the intake manifold (I think,) I just kept twisting the wire
until it pulled the thing out.
HTH
Cheer's
