I did this as well as cut a 4" hole around the original hole in the airbox  
and glued a coupling in it that I attached a thin walled 4" piece of pvc and 
ran  it out just above the oil cooler where it would only get cold air. I also 
did  this on the wife's avant and with the S6 + front bumper the opening is big 
 enough for both the oil cooler and 4" tube to get plenty of cold air. I also 
cut  the sleeve on the upper part of the air box that comes in from the MAF 
at a 45  degree angle hoping to draw more air up. Who knows if that did 
anything but if  you look at how far the tube goes against the back side of the 
airbox it doesn't  seem like it could hurt.
