I have a soft spot for Golfs -- had a original GTI (or at least, an
original to the U.S. GTI) and a highly modified 85. Probably put out all
of 150hp, but at 2300lbs. and with the competition being what it was
almost 20 years ago, it was a rocket. A real torque monster. I kept it
for 11 years, then passed it on to my step daughter, who no maintenanced
it to death.

The R32 is very tempting, but I just recently reduced the car count (for
the two of us) down to three, by passing the UrS4 on to my other (more
responsible) step daughter. Maybe I'll pick one up in a couple or three
years and turn it into a track car.

Agree with you on the R32 being a better day-to-day package. Have a WRX
Wagon to tote the dogs around and pick up groceries. Though it's lots of
fun, it's a basic economy car underneath -- no where up to the standard
of the VW/Audi products. Enjoy.
