When I decided to sell my S6 avant, I didn't think much about 
other vehicles. Here were my criteria:

- decent size (I love wagons)
- safe (both passive and active safety important)
- capable in all weather
- reasonably economical (both to maintain and to run)
- fun to drive

I thought briefly about a MB turbodiesel sedan or wagon as I was 
driving 60 miles a day for work. Didn't hit on enough criteria. I 
also entertained the idea of a Touareg, but not seriously.

I also posed the question, briefly, "if I weren't buying another 
Audi wagon (our third), what *would* I buy."

Boxster was the answer.

So I bought an '02 A6 3.0 quattro wagon. I would have preferred 
the S6 avant, if only for the sport seats and the other goodies, 
not necessarily for the V8 performance. I'm driving much more 
gently these days...but if I had to buy another car tomorrow, I'd 
be bidding on the '02 S6 on ebay :)

That having been said, I am happy with my purchase. I don't spend 
any time on the track...if I did, I might have done something 
different. Maybe held out for an S6 or an allroad.

But I do think my choice was a better financial decision...now 
just to avoid that slipper slope.

Anybody have a pair of late model platinum sport seats sitting 
around?
