Chris;
Flushing the hydraulic system eliminated the steering "play" and warning
light issue on my '94 S4. It's been 2 years since I did it and the problems
are just starting to return - time for another flush I guess.

Subject: [s-cars] Hydraulic system problem/questions - long
Scar nutz,
Been having a problem for some time now, I'll recap in detail with as
much info as possible.
When I purchased my 93 S4 ~3 years ago I had the infamous brake light
staying on for a little while. Slowly but steadily the light stayed on
longer and longer.
Eventually the light began to blink at times and I could feel a
"vibration" through the brake pedal when first starting the car for a
couple minutes.
Wanting to fix this I ordered a bomb and installed it. After I replaced
the bomb and hydraulic fluid I was bleading the system when a seperate
hydraulic line "popped" off. I shut down the car immediately but the
system emptied itself of most of the hydraulic fluid, yes it went
everywhere.
I re-installed the hydraulic line with a new clamp, replaced the fluid
and bled the system. The brakes were great and the light never came on.
Well ~2 weeks later a hydraulic leak showed up, short story it was the
seal under the "plug" on the side of the bomb. I re-installed my old
bomb as a stop-gap until I could get the new one replaced. Imagine my
surprise when the brake light did not come on at all, and braking was
great!
Had my tie rod ends replaced due to some "play" int he front end. But
after the alignment I still felt "play"...or a dead spot in the center
of my steering.
Well about 2 weeks later the brake light started coming on....GRRRR So
believing I had "junk" in my hydraulic system I flushed it, twice.
Brake light went away and everything was great, it also solved my
"play" in my front end, for about a week.
OK, I decide my bomb myst be weak, and got a used one from a fellow
lister parting out his wrecked S4 (soon to buy a coupe in Canada).
Brake light goes away, for a week. Flushed the system again, same
thing.....brake light re-appeared after one day and steering got that
"play" back..
So, do I have junk in my hydraulic system or is it a bad bomb and the
flush somehow "fixes" it for a short period of time?
Thanks for your input, I don't want to buy a bomb I don't need.
Chris
