I've owned various rotary powered beasts over the last 15
years. One interesting and seemingly chronic problem was
carbon buildup on the springs (think of one section of a leaf
spring, miniature size) whose function was to keep the apex
seal (kinda like a piston ring) pressed against the rotor
housing. This build-up would sometimes keep the spring from
fully extending and thus reducing or eliminating compression
needed to run those lovely rotors.

The solution was the self described "ATF Trick" where small
amounts of ATF (maybe 2 ounces or so) were introduced into
the 2 rotor housings and distributed through the combustion
chambers by cranking the engine round a few times (fuel was
cut off, as a side effect of the loss of compression was
flooding of the engine, and you don't de-flood a rotary the
same way as a boinger). Wait 24 hrs for the detergents to
work their magic and fire the beast up, OUTSIDE.

The smoke produced would rival anything a military
smokescreen could produce (after my first attempt I always
started the cars late at night so as not to freak out the
neighbors). About 15 minutes of idling would clear most of
the heavy smoke, then a few redline runs and a highway cruise
to burn off the rest.

This method was great for finding exhaust leaks in your
system although not great for the kitty.

Sadly I don't have any RX's in the stable (kids), but I sure
do miss 'em, the S6 is great but those RX's are just plain
fun. They put a smile on my face every day driving home from
work, a come to life video game.
