the leg injury ratings are interesting, but i'm not sure how much importance
to place on those.

in the search for better crash ratings, manufacturers have taken to 
heavily padding the knee bolsters under the dash, or even going so far
as to provide knee airbags.  that's reduced the incidence of lower leg
injuries in collisions.  however, there appears to be an unintended
consequence: there are more hip injuries now, and those are harder to fix
and take longer to heal.  instead of breaking and absorbing crash energy,
the lower leg is being protected well enough to transmit tremendous
forces to the hip.

i'd much rather break my leg than my hip, i can tell you that.
