you have to first take out the rear head rests by removing the cotter pin
clips that hold them in. You can get at them by compressing the top of the
leather seat area. Then pull out the plastic inserts that the head rests
slip into. If they won't come out easily, get into the trunk, peel back
the carpet on the back of the seat area, and use a hammer and screw driver
to bang them upwards and out. After this the seat is mostly free. I
think it lifts up and out.

After all this talk on the subject I've decided to give this a shot (never
really seemed that important). I got the seat out, side panel off, and it
seems that the backrest must be removed. Is this true, and if so how in the
world is that accomplished?
