Vincent: I've got good news, bad news and good news.
The good news is the head gasket is only something like $75. It should
be an all metal one if you didn't have one already. These are better
(supposedly than the part metal - part fibre ones used on the early I5
20V cars).
The bad news is you now have the "opportunity" to do a pre-emptive valve
seal/guide/grind job while the head is off. In addition, since the head
is off anyway, you might as well replace the timing belt (and water pump
and idler pulley, etc). Unfortunately, to remove the head, there are a
bunch of non-reuseable bolts and nuts including the head bolts and the
turbo to exhaust nuts, etc.
The good news is you will now have peace of mind for a long time and
won't have to worry about the head gasket if you turn up the boost more.
BTDT.
