I had a similar problem on my urS4 when I installed the Valeo wipers. They 
would not pull flat onto the windshiel. I pulled the arm off and started a 
Happersized Spring Mod(HSM)tm. I used a good set of pliers and was able to bend 
some tension back into the double spring underneath. The spring material is very 
resillient so be patient in the bending. Once you see underneath, it all makes 
sense. HTH. BTW, the wipers worked great in snow and sleet. My wife's A6 4.2 
did not need the HSM.
