[s-cars] Blown head gasket - was Local, intermittent overheating !???!?!

The electric fan kicks in as I've noticed last Thursday when the S6 overheat
for the first time. I haven't checked the viscous fan but I changed the
viscous clutch this year so it should be OK also. Besides, it was -19C on
Saturday when I start to think about a head gasket. With a temperature this
low, the engine should stay cool when driving even with a dead fan.

So, suspens is over: blown head gasket.

I decided to took the S6 to the DIY garage to replace the Tstat. I's only a
10 min drive and, starting at -19C, I thought I would be able to get there
before it start overheating. Keeping a close eye on channel 51, after 5 min,

I reached 100C, so I decided to stop. Boiling brown coolant and white
deposit on the oil cap. No doubt anymore.

Make sure your radiator fan switch kicks on when idling or driving. Both low
and high speed before replacing the head gasket.

If the fan does not work it will have symptoms of a head gasket failure ...
don't ask how I know.
