[s-cars] loose driveshaft

Hey everyone. Crawled under my car today to investigate various clunks and
noises from the driveline. Checked the tranny mounts; they seem ok. Checked
the driveshaft as well. Uh oh. There is SIGNIFICANT play/looseness, both
when turning from side to side and pushing it back and forth. This would
explain a bunch of noises I've been experiencing, from the wobbling under
acceleration to the moaning at around 40mph. Now the question is: what is
worn? I know the carrier bearing can be replaced/the bracket fabricated with
a bmw part. I also know that both of the CV joints can be repacked. How
about the cross joint in the middle?(Is that what it's called?) What else
needs to be redone in order to recondition a driveshaft? Also, can I do this
myself or is a shop needed? Thanks for all your help,
