There have been several 6-speed conversions  and mishaps by listers 
which usually results in a good transmission for sale.  See 
<s-cars.org> or <audiworld.com>  classifieds and e-bay as well.   
Champagne motors in Denver area and Autobahn-Performance in Atlanta 
area used to offer upgrades and repairs.  I have lost the information 
on a well-regarded shop in Bend, OR.   There's a shop advertises 
quattro repairs in Michigan called AutoSportsUnlimited.com, a 
combination sales, salvage, rebuild, and parts outfit.   No personal 
experience with any for this specific work.  My slant is try the used 
market from someone reputable you can find later.  The upgrades and 
repairs have been in the $3500 range for gear or synchro work and most 
say, I might as well do the clutch while I'm in there.
