After doing alot of research I began my install of my V1's remote
display in the instrument cluster and a remote mute button.

I followed this write up on the remote display installation:
http://www.elektro.com/~audi/v1/

I would add that my circuit board in my V1's remote display was not
exactly the same as his, because of the differences I could not remove
as much of the circuit board by the mute button. This caused me to have
remove a portion of the display faceplate on the arrow side. It looks
good and works just take it as an FYI. Also the wire routed through a
hole in the instrument cluster needs to be opened up. If you have the
proper tools and are building the wire it won't be a problem as you can
install the connector after routing the wire through the hole.

I am glad to report the installation was a success! I now have the
display in the instrument cluseter and have a remote mute foot button
on the floor. The mute button itself is an old foot pedal button for a
2 way radio, I selected it because it is waterproof. I mounted the
pedal on the "footrest" to the left of the clutch pedal at the same
height as the clutch pedal. It is quite comfy to use it and yet out of
the way.

Up next, integrating the V1 itself into/behind the mirror. Has anyone
seen this done? My idea is to build a mount for it behind the mirror,
opening up a spot on the mirror platic body/mirror glass for the
laser/radar antennas. This way the V1 would be basicly invisible.

Any ideas? I have read about installations inside the 3rd brake light
or in a speaker housing on the rear deck but I want to keep the optimum
placement of the V1 (not sacrifice sensitivity).

On another note while doing my research I found this after market
remote display that plugs into the BMS bus and displays the V1 info on
teh car's instrument cluster display, check it out:
