I found a place that will sell really good bumper to bumper (exclusionary) and comprehensive (named component) warranties for our age/mileage cars.
I have done a lot of research in this area, and while this company is relatively new (2 yrs), their underwriter is about 20 years old. The agent selling warranties for them seems like a decent guy, gave me a bunch of info on them, and he has been in business for over 20 years. The company is insured via the Alabama state direct insurance regulator fund, so their reserves are regulated in case they go belly-up.
Anyhow, if you are interested in a quote, call Hal Moses, President of Auto Advantage, at 800-933-9190. Mention that Bruce Mendel referred you (I get no fee, I swear!), and that you want a quote from Exotic on bumper to bumper or as close as you can get for your car's age/mileage.
I am spending my hard-earned money on this, but please, I do not have any direct claims experience with them yet, so do your own research and as usual, caveat emptor.
The only downsides are that the individual repair cap and the aggregate cap are tied to the NADA retail value of your car, which may not make sense for many of us. with older highly modified cars that don't have good book values. As usual, they will not cover modifications, so do your homework (hi Paul K.!). Finally, they will cover collector cars, exotics, and stuff, so if you have anything else in your stable, check into it. This type of coverage is hard to find.
Good luck!
