It is a Frequency output. 

There are two pins you can get the signal from at the ECU 

1) Directly from the sensor (Pin 49) and the frequency is about 2.25 KHz/1000 
rpm this signal will need to be converted to a 0 - 5 volt pulse unless the 
datalogger can handle it (either way it probably needs to be clamped at least at 
12 volts (via a resistor)).
2) Pin 40 - I don't know the exact values but it is a pulsed output either 
0-12 volts or 0-5 volts and is much lower in frequency 30-90 Hz/1000 rpm. This 
is the signal used by the Tach.
