[s-cars] Magnetic filters for oil any good?

My inclination would be to suggest that this is wasted effort and
ex$pen$e. With an aluminum engine most of the bits of metal inside the
engine should be also of aluminum. Aluminum is a non-magnetic metal and
will not be attracted to a magnet. Granted, there are steel parts as well
and bits of wear debris from the steel would tend to be collected by a
magnet. The question would be, "Is it enough to make a difference?" That
can perhaps be best answered by two more questions. "How frequently do you
change the oil and filter?" "Do you use a quality filter?"
The third question would be: "If this actually is a good idea then why
spend ~$50 for a magnet when quality magnets can be purchased for FAR less
than $50?"
The fourth question might be: "Psst! Hey, Buddy - wanna buy a Turbolator
for your car?" :-)
