[s-cars] FMIC Alternatives

Ya Hap could be right about this, the end tanks on a top to bottom also
block a lot of area that would otherwise flow thru the intercooler to
the radiator, this could also be bad. I thought that with a set up like
hap's or mine, the full 12 in available for making a top down and the
intercooler tilted a bit off the horizontal you could get a long enouph
core, it may just not be practical in our situation. Let's see, 2.5
inlet on one the bottom right, 1" on the top right, 3.5"-12 8.5" or
core, hmm then slant the core by 2.5" over 24 inches.... I dunno.

That is it I am going to measure my pressure drop.

Dave

I have some ideas on the issues with the ASW or any top to bottom I/C
for our
application. We are limited in the space available most critically in
the
height of an FMIC. In seeing their prototype I was struck by its lack of
size due
to the height limitation. The top and bottom end tanks take up room that
a
side to side uses as part of its core. The TTB just didn't have the heat
sink
capability.

In answer to Teddy's earlier post, anyway I think it was Teddy, the ASW
current model cants the end tanks about 18 degrees to allow it to better
fit our
curved front end. Another issue with bending, via 2 cores joined at the
middle,
the I/C would be a reduction in frontal air pressure and cooling flow
through
the I/C core. The single core, perpendicular to the air flow provides
the most
efficient application. I recently added a small spoiler all the way
around
the perimeter of the core to help force more cooling air through it. I
used
Corky Bell's diagram on page 58 of Maximum Boost in the design. At first
blush his
suggestion seems counterintuitive. It did lower my I/C out temp a
couple of
degrees. I do run a Davtron I/C temp gauge.
